Birds in the Fig Tree. TKG Take Ten. Travel.
Wellington. New Zealand. The Tui and the Waxeye.
In the hill garden where I am staying there is a big old fig tree. It is Autumn so there are a few ripe figs left hanging in the old fruit tree - the family eats the figs all season - and the tiny wax-eyes clean up all the rest. Plus the odd blackbird or two. And we can hear planes - we are close to the airport so there will always be a plane or two.
Today the Tūī makes their first entrance into our soundscape. And their calls are divine!
This video is the essence of calm. Some little people were watching it with me and counting all the birds. There were thirty three sightings. Mostly wax eyes swinging through the trees.
This one is lovely with your eyes closed.
Have a great day/morning/evening!
Celi and little friends.
Oh! Oh! Oh1 So little time left--so much to learn! Naturally, I first had to discover little wax-eyes and read about them. What they look like. Then tui. How to pronounce, I don't know. But I learn so much from you, Cecilia. And what a great place you're in--perfect for contemplation. And I guess fig trees were around when Christ walked the earth. I'm no Bible reader, but even I know there were fig trees then. I'm surprised they weren't called fiddle trees!
This has to be one of my favourites! A fig tree, how wonderful. Thanks!
