Idyllic yes except maybe for the winds and incessant drip from the gutters. But it is Spring here on the prairies of Illinois. Things are moist and muddy. I hate that word moist. The gutters feed fresh rain water straight into the pond so that is a good thing. But. I forgot to clean them out. The gutters. Hopefully. I can get that done before I leave on Sunday.
So much to do! But it is all exercise. All steps.
Evidently there is a direct link between exercise and dementia. Those who exercise plenty will be sharper in the mind. When a doctor was asked how much exercise, she answered what ever you are doing now then add another third. Well, that’s not very precise. OK. 45 minutes three times a week.
OK. Farming counts then! This is probably why farm animals in fields are cleverer than farm animals contained in pens without farms at all. And farmers seldom forget they have animals. (That was convoluted).
Speaking of farmers. A man was showing me pictures of his farm dogs on a plane the other day. The man was on the plane not the dog. He said, would it be awful to admit that I miss my dogs more than my wife. He looked at me - knowing he would never see me again in his life. He looked at me hopefully. Sounds reasonable, I said. Life is not instagram. His relief was palpable. I love my wife, he said mournfully but - yeah I miss the dogs.
Quacker. Bless her. I hope she holds on (and avoids the predators like all us girls), until I get back from my travels and I hope she is already sitting on eggs when I arrive back on the farm because I have ordered her some babies for early June. Her own eggs will be infertile - but she does not know that. So I will swap them out for ducklings. Just imagine her surprise when she discovers ducklings in her nest. It will be a risk. There will be so many variables! (She may not have even made a nest). But it is worth a crack!
Can you hear the robins?
Have a lovely evening.

“ But it is worth the crack”? Ha ha. If ducklings are forthcoming imagine Mr Flowers wondering how that happened?
It's so enjoyable watching Quacker step into her private pond and paddle about. Fun to see her stand on her head to reach something delectable. She's just so cute the way she waggles her tail but then stretches her wings too.. Oh I sure hope she stays safe too. I just noticed your little birdhouse. Do you have visitors?
