The oldest tree on this property is a pear tree. They estimate she is at least eighty years old. And yes! It is a pear! (Generally fruit trees don’t have such fruitful longevity). This old pear tree has massive harvests every year. Attracting bees, blackbirds and babies alike!
One horticulturalist who visited said basically it has been bonsai-ed by the hilly clay soil - keeping it small and compact.
It is Autumn here in New Zealand as I travel but I missed the pear harvest this year.
(The rather dreadful capture of me at the base of the tree was when I turned the video on to record. It made me laugh, so worth the share!).
Have a glorious /afternoon/morning. Evening!

Yes Deb, truly magical, and amazing that the little tree has been naturally bonsai ed by the clay, and produces fruit year in year out. Amused by the tapping continuing in the background.
Never saw the dreadful you. I'm with Deb: this was magical. And I thought the tapping was surely a pointy-billed bird.
