The locals were shocked to find that my little brother had surfed one of the most dangerous beaches in Mahia by mistake.
It is called The Rolling Stones because the current is so strong here it rolls the stones about on the floor of the sea. Rumbling. Turning the stones into balls.
Later - after my brother had been safely spat out back onto the beach by this heinous surf. We had gone out for fish and chips - my old friend is a local, old time surfer on Mahia. And he was like hows your board mate? Should be Ok, said my brother. He has been surfing for as long as he has been runing so the boy knows his shit but my old friend shook his head.
The board:
So how did you find the rolling stones, my friend said, apparently it is a local secret - well, my brother, said we were driving about looking for the surf and saw this guy walk over the hill with a surfboard. So he thought - my brother thought - may as well give that a crack.
My old friend paled somewhat and his partner, another old friend of mine, punched my brother on the shoulder and said, congratulations mate. You made it! We all laughed. Quietly. Then all rather sheepishly tucked into our fish and chips after that.
The first clue was he was the only one out there!
But the images are great!!
You will have to go to thekitchensgarden.com to see stills of his descent straight thought Rolling Stone Hell to apparent safety.
I am in Gisborne, New Zealand this morning. Off to Tauranga today! Life is rolling along at high speed, still!
Have fun
Take care and Talk soon
