The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde narrated by Cecilia Gunther
The Canterville Ghost, it is a very sad state off affairs for a respectable english ghost, to spend more time dodging American teenagers than actually haunting anyone.
"The Canterville Ghost" is a humorous short story by Oscar Wilde. Described as a novella and written in 1887 it was one of the first of his stories to be published. He was 33 at the time. It is a rather gruesome and humorous story but curiously innocent. I love that Wilde must have laughed out loud as he wrote it.
We deserve some silliness.
Remember that I read these stories spontaneously - in an organic way - with no editing. I read as though I am sat in a big chair next to your resting form - a real person. If I make an error I just start the sentence again - if I sneeze I will say excuse me because I have manners; that is the thing I love the most actually, the personal-ness of it!
And as Oscar Wilde famously said:
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
Reading One (April 28 2025) Chapters one and two.
Reading Two (April 30 2025) Chapter three - (rather delightfully I forgot to close my window for this one and as well as a little traffic noise on this quiet Wednesday morning - the rubbish truck rumbled past as well! oops. No editing of course - that’s the rule). 😂
Reading Three (May 02 2025) Chapters four and five
Reading Four (May 06 2025) Chapter Six and seven
The Final Chapters of this rather odd but sweet little story.

It is for everyone and everyone is kind. Anyone who is not kind is chucked out. NO excuses. So you are safe. I pop in a couple of times a day to have a yarn! (As long as life behaves of course!)
Love Celi
I love listening to you read. There is so much peace and kindness to your voice and reading. It is a balm in this crazy American world.
