The Purple Pig . TKG Take Ten
Lean on the barn door with me. Ten minutes of peaceful sweetness on the little organic sustainably managed farm.
(I feel so uncomfortable talking money with you but it is a scene we have to play every now and then. (Sigh) TKG Take Ten was set up to raise a little money for this little organic sustainable farm. Mainly to buy apples for the rescue pigs - like Wai whose scars are on display in this video. So if you can upgrade to Paid (and buy a bag of apples a month) they would be so grateful. If you have already upgraded you will be receiving these vids 5 days a week plus the opportunity to join my chat thread! And we thank YOU).
(If you can’t afford it - don’t worry about it - I totally understand and there will still be plenty of free stuff).
Tima has become the purple pig.
She and the others are getting bitten by the bitey flies. Flies bite out here in Illinois when there is rain coming. And rain is coming. I spray her with a purple spray. Gentian Violet maybe - I should look on the label. The purple spray closes each bleeding bite. We also use zinc cream.
Did you see the flies in yesterday’s video?
These little videos (though I make them so you can fold into the calm ambient sounds on the farm) give us lots of visual clues too. We lean and watch during the work day but we miss so many details in amongst the distractions of the moment. Watching a TKG Take Ten gives us piles more useful info.
Information I can use. See how the chickens are losing feathers on their backs? This is from over zealous roosters. Time to catch all these hens and lock them away from the roosters, for a rest from the randy bastards.
But before I catch them all and close the hen house doors, I need to clean out the hen house. Nobody likes that job!
Pop over if you have nothing to do! I have plenty of pitchforks. And every task (like catching the barn hens) requires at least two prep steps.
Farming is a bit like playing chess! You have got to have a plan. And now we are adding the hens to that plan.
Have a lovely evening!

PS Tomorrow we will watch the Mama hen settle her chicks for the night. It is alarmingly sweet!
