TKG Take Ten . Back on the Farm . Shifting cows.
Lean on the gate with me and listen to the gentle ambient country sounds, with pictures, from my organic fields.
Very overgrown organic fields which was my intention by the way. 😂
I am still trying to crowd out the thistle that is taking over our fields by letting the grass grow long. We are under stocked for that very reason.
I try hard to look at the thistle problem as a metaphor for life but generally thistles in my fields - taking nutrients and space from the grass that feeds my cows - just pisses me off.
The other cool thing about the long grass is that the cows can go deep and brush those pesky flies off their legs. These Illinois biting flies will leave a cow’s legs bloody.
This field has started to go to seed which is good for next years field but nutrition will be low this year. The protein has gone into the production of seed. Not to worry - the cows eat the seeds too!
And these are field raised cows. No corn for them - only greens - allowing them to fatten slowly and naturally.
Did you hear the red-winged blackbird?
This is our first day back on the farm! Spend the summer with me!
Have a great day!
See you tomorrow!

So calming!
the cows must love that, especially the bonus swiping the flies off of their legs benefit
