TKG Take Ten . The Morning Bird Conducter
Wednesday. Pianissimo. Soft. Acapella. The morning bird conductor has her body curled. Her ear to the sound. Her pencil thin baton bouncing low. Infintesimal movements. Listen to each other she signs.
The conductor is nodding her bird head. Her suit precise and clipped. Her feet firm on the branch. Not spring-time yet but let’s bring in just a few more voices - she nods to the sparrows high in the tree. Just to keep the audience in their seats. The pigeons and doves fold in. She waves in the meadowlark.
We have gone through the winter of deep cold and not cold and some cold and all this winters unsettledness. The birds were gone to where birds go when the winter comes. We are not out of the winter woods yet by any means. Yet our common birds hold fast to their entertainment.
We don’t want to seem ungrateful for our common all-winter birds but you and I are tuning into new sounds too. Searching our skies for new birds. Turning the dial until we catch a new song. I think I found a new song.
Today we are listening to music composed by the:
House Sparrow
Rock Pigeon
European Starling
Eastern Meadowlark (such a beautiful song) (I have not heard it in a while).
The Eastern Meadowlark is migratory so I wonder how long she will be in our Farmy orchestra. And the melody will grow as new birds join us. Keep your ears open.
Have a lovely day/afternoon/evening/night!
See you in the morning.
