we are off to the beach . today
So you can look forward to fantastic beach shots tomorrow. I hope. 😆
The beach! I am looking forward to the sea. You know how I feel about the sea - being a boatbuilders daughter and all. It is a 90 minute drive to the Torquey Beach where we have rented a little bach. It is still Spring here in Australia so we won’t be too warm or anything but we will rug up! And the AirBnB has a pizza oven!
It rained in the afternoon here yesterday after I had spent half an hour watering the new plants (tomatoes and beans and zucchini have been recently planted).
We pay for our water here in the suburbs of Melbourne so when it rains after I spent money to irrigate, I have to admit to being a teensy bit irritated, but ah well, more water is better, and rain is always better than the hose.
John says they have not had rain in Central Illinois for a long time. (It is hard to get actual facts out of John) but I assume a long while will be a month or more - he said it is unbelievably dry.
There was a field fire yesterday - half a mile away from our house. Lucky it was a southerly. There was another field fire five miles west the day previous. Field fires terrify me - our barn is made of 100-year-old dry kindling. It will be gone in seconds. Our house sits in the middle of a newly harvested field. Covered in short, dry stubble. A fire would roar through. And there are rescue pigs who are still in and out of the barn. But they are all good.
Everyone is fine. The fires are out. This fire took a while to put out with the hot winds, but it is doused now. Thanks Gods.
Ok. Time to get everything ready for two days at the beach.
And no - we are not taking the baby bath! The bins are out. The garden gate is locked. The cat sitter arrives soon. The car is packed to the gills!
And when we get there -we can walk for miles and miles.
A few friends are meeting us up there and we can walk for miles up this beach - you will be hearing from me! Soon!
Love Celi
And just because I am talking about gardens and beaches and babies does not mean I am not devastated about what is happening in Chicago (my adopted home city) at this very moment.
What the actual hell?!
And we must live our lives beside this hell - and keep talking about it and keep protecting our people. I know there are high schools in the South Side of Chicago looking for volunteers to walk kids safely home when there is ICE activity in the area -young women in particular need to be extra careful I am told - many of these ICE agents are untrained, untested and armed so if you have time and a good deal of courage - reach out to your local school.
I am so sorry I had to write that sentence.

Thank you for writing it all. Enjoy the beach, and yes, we watch Chicago among others.
I am sorry you had to write that sentence, too, about young women being in danger from ICE agents in Chicago. Everyone is in danger: last week they knocked over an 86-year-old couple who had joined a peaceful protest. The man, who was using a walker, was a Viet Nam veteran. His wife was hit in the face with a projectile. They are both alright, thank goodness. I, too, hate it when I have just watered and it rains, but I would much rather the rain take care of plants than me taking care of them -- they seem to thrive in rainfall, happier than with whatever I give them.
