Those calves look so content, in spite of the annoying flies. I once asked my mother why we never barbecued when we lived on the farm. She said it was because it was too cold in the winter and there were too many flies in the summer.

“Bobbies in blankets”, love that. A new cycle of watching those gentle calves grow up. The barn is such a lovely space with the added delight of various bird song, thank you, as ever.🙏🏼

Wonderful that the cows are concerned, but I can't help wondering how the calves' mothers are. Would it be possible to hang a few of those fly zappers in the barn ? The calves' tails aren't nearly long or wide enough to do the job.

I have a lemongrass spray that repels the flies. I am training the calves not to be afraid of it.

The old blankets are up but I think it will be the long grass that keeps them comfortable this year. The big cows barely come up to the yard now.
