How exciting to be a doula for your daughter. You are such a good farmer because you are a such a good mother! A boss once told me I was a good manager because I was a good mother. (I think I was a good mother because I was a good manager but I didn't argue with her). I am loving Alice.

What a wonderful compliment. It certainly works both ways! Managing a household takes some doing!

This is wonderful, Celi. I'm trying to think of something interesting for you to read on a layover. I personally feel like tomorrow is the actual first day of the year and today I cleaned my desk and went through papers and old journals. Then the hub and I went on errands and now we will walk our new dog and then relax with wine before dinner (a white bean dish). I'm feeling ready for 2025!

Think fast! I checked in and am at the gate - boarding soon from Melbourne to Auckland (the first leg) then on to LAX ( my least favourite airport in the world) then on to Chicago if the weather cooperates.

So exciting to read about your new job! It made my heart burst just a little bit with joy. I hope the planes all line up and you pass through them swiftly on your way back to the cold. We’ll be waiting for you on the other end.

Hi there Siobhan- isn’t it wonderful! My life is bursting at the seams! I am presently in the departure lounge that is not very loungy at all! But I am way into the travel zone: quiet, calm

I enjoyed your remarks about being a granny and advocating for a better future. We have a group in our home town called 100 Grannies. They do the same. https://100grannies.org/

Happily my -grownup- siblings and I haven't outgrown our love of swings so a visit to the park with our nieces/kids is all about taking turns swinging and pushing the littlies, and we all love the slippery dips and see-saws as well... good never-out-of-fashion fun.

We are also taking our turn at being the sandwich generation. Caring for our octogenarian and nonagerian parents, and morally supporting the grandkids who as young adults are sophisticated, savvy and educated but because every generation has different priorities and pressures the grandkids lack some of the basic life skills we have but their parents eschew/ed. Congratulations on the doula development. I'm looking forward to following along.

I used to doula for my class couples (childbirth and pregnancy) but the greatest joy was teaching and supporting the oldest daughter at each birth, and then for years after with both grands. I could not imagine NOT being there with her. Stay safe as you travel. I know the Midwest is getting hit hard with weather so perhaps you will get a day or two in a luxury hotel in Chicago to end this journey. Stay safe dear friend and very happy to have you home for a bit.
