We went out today after finally figuring out how to fold the stroller to go into the boot of the car, then how to fit the car seat into it - using these little attachment things that ended up stuck on the car seat that is fitted into the car, so we couldn’t transfer the seat to the car - it was hysterical.
So we took everything out and Googled how to remove the seatbelt attachments, which were somehow locked in and totally stiff. Then we just started laughing, because the baby was sweetly sleeping through us jostling the car seat back and forth. Trying to work shit out.
Well I guess you had to be there.
We keep adding little systems to this 2025 newborn baby journey.
I am presently trying to figure out how to lay the bouncer down flatter so I can bounce baby as I write. It is my shift. The bouncer is a gift. A lovely piece of equipment but I guess I have to utube it! Mum is getting a nap. So baby and I are figuring out this next piece of baby stuff.
Why doesn’t all this stuff just work the same? Like how the battery in my drill works with the weed eater and the leaf blower - simple.
I guess because our stuff is borrowed or rented or gifted.
It reminded us of that day two weeks ago, with a brand-new baby and a freshly postpartum mum, in the hospital, getting discharged, trying to loosen the straps in the car seat that looked like a bucket with a handle and straps, just to get the baby in. And loosen they would not!!
Neither of us had ever set up a baby seat straight out of the box before. We pushed a d pulled and poked at all the buttons. We laughed and laughed like idiots. So sleep deprived and traumatized we were hysterical. Though the new mum more tried not to laugh - her with stitches and everything..
There I was: baby in one hand, phone in the other, Googling how to work the damn car seat.
The last time I was with a little baby the car seat was left in the car and you carried the baby to the car to strap him in. When my daughter was a baby I had a cocoon that fitted into the pram and she slept in that in the back seat until she was old enough for the car seat. The horror!
My parents had a baby seat that hooked over the back of the car seat. That was it. Not even clipped into the car. There weren’t even seat belts in the back seat. If there was a wee baby Mum held him in the front seat.
Things are much safer now. Thank goodness because there are so many more cars on the road.
So, so sad for the murders and shootings in Minnesota - what a way to begin an amazingly successful protest day. At some point someone has to listen. 11 million people on the streets with minimal arrests - the guard can go home now. The people get to speak.
Green Lasagna
Green Vegetable Lasagna with lots of bechamal sauce. The secret of a good vege lasagna in this house is to make lots of be bechamel sauce from a roux.
I picked the garden clean of greens, Daughter added a leek, peas, anything green from the fridge.
She made a pot of cheese sauce.
This green lasagna is very simple. No frills.
Layered the lightly pan fried vegetables and sauce with precooked lasagna sheets.
Topped with grated cheese and breadcrumbs.
Cook in a medium oven for an hour. Make sure to have a baking sheet under the dish to catch any spills.
Tip: if you can press the lasagna overnight or even a few hours the layers will hold together better.
Use any greens you have - any vegetables really. This one does not even have tomatoes. Precook the vegetables to remove a little of their water.
Have dried precooked lasagna sheets in your pantry for just this meal - we can make our own pasta too but often with a baby in the house we just don’t have time. Both work.
Now for the biggest tip of all!
You know how I am about leftovers. Yes!
Tomorrow. Slice the lasagna into fat strips. Pan fry each side in a little fat of your choice - I use butter.
The bechamel will caramelize on each side as it heats through and you add yet another layer of deliciousness to your green lasagna.
Now, every person here who loves a fry-up knows that the best fry- ups end up looking like a dogs dinner! With crunch! But that’s fine too!
Have a lovely day.

PS I almost had this posted in my Australian morning but then we remembered baby needed his hearing test! So, off we went!
They do these tests on all newborn babies. But it looks pretty dramatic right? Make sure baby is asleep though. This test only works if baby is asleep. We got lucky - baby was fast asleep.
Baby’s face goes behind the social media wall now. We need to be careful about exposure to the internet. And that is enough I think. But a dramatic exit!
Just in: This weekend @Ali Kaya posted in a note a link to this fantastic resource at the USDA.
Free watercolors of all kinds of fruits. Painted I will be scrolling through this often!
Click the note to see the link. I will also drop it in my chat.
Many years ago I babysat my cousin's three year old. Something had come up last minute. I told her I had errands to run. She left her car with the car seat and took mine. Great! Kid and I played for a bit, and then it was time to put the kid into the car for errands. Two shoulder straps fit together into one receptacle buckle from the bottom of the seat, but I couldn't quite figure out how to make it all work. After several minutes of quietly watching me fumble, the kid took the straps from me and buckled himself in. 🤣
I'm not sure anything as tasty as that lasagna would last long enough to be left over in this house, what with Husband and two large omnivore dogs and 7 chickens, not to mention me picking at things in the fridge when I go in for milk or butter.
