Many years ago I babysat my cousin's three year old. Something had come up last minute. I told her I had errands to run. She left her car with the car seat and took mine. Great! Kid and I played for a bit, and then it was time to put the kid into the car for errands. Two shoulder straps fit together into one receptacle buckle from the bottom of the seat, but I couldn't quite figure out how to make it all work. After several minutes of quietly watching me fumble, the kid took the straps from me and buckled himself in. 🤣

I can just imagine her face watching you struggle!! Every time I encounter a new car seat they seem to be different - thankfully they seem to have standardized the central connection. A good secure car seat does save lives. It is another thing my daughter is pedantic about - making sure baby is firmly strapped in. In case baby is thrown from the car IN the car seat. She has seen too many horrible things.

I have 3 car seats in the back of my car and I have no idea how to install any of them! Thankfully my hubby actually is a certified car seat installer thanks to a job he once had in road safety. It's a very useful skill.

Baby looks wonderful - and oh that hearing test! A fascinating process. I remember sitting with bated breath watching the lines zig and zag and willing them to get to 'pass'.

Lasagne looks sooooo good. Agree with you re fry ups! The more rustic, the more delicious.

I remember those days of multiple car seats! God!! How lucky to have your husband to install them. We have hired one for these first few months and they fitted it. But what to do with the next car seat - my son bought a good one for my daughter for 3 months onward - and I don’t want to think about how we fit it!! 😆🥹

You are in the thick of it! Hope your night went well!

I'm not sure anything as tasty as that lasagna would last long enough to be left over in this house, what with Husband and two large omnivore dogs and 7 chickens, not to mention me picking at things in the fridge when I go in for milk or butter.

We actually cook with an eye to tomorrows fry up! Each to his own, though. Glad your dogs are getting some of your good cooking!

The lasagna looked good. We've made our lasagna recently using layers of polenta instead of pasta. Those are alternated withgreens and spinach and red sauce flavored to make it more of a Mexican style. We were trying to use up some leftovers in the fridge. It worked for us.

Lasagna is an excellent vehicle for using up left overs. Polenta sounds like a grand idea. Did you make it first then slice it into thin strips? I have not had polenta for years. I forgot about it! I love it refried.

We buy polenta at the grocery already made into a wrapped tube. We slice it thin for the layers in the lasagna. We also slice it and fry it on a hot griddle for other meals.

Aha! I think I have seen those rolls. I will look out for them over here! Thank you, Jim!

I've had lentil lasagna that's a nice change from mince - my sister in law is a vegetarian due to being an ICU nurse and having worked with burns patients - lentils it is

I remember the car seat issue when we had our kids 🤗

Lentils are so useful in the kitchen. They say you will live longer with lentils and pulses in your diet! Healthier gut I guess!

You make me smile each and every time! Sorry about Louie not being a model in the future but more than understand! Golly gosh what a gorgeous looking grandson :) ! Am roaring with laughter 'cause I have sufficient years on my back to have mostly 'travelled' on Tallinn's horse and buggies as a babe as cars came far and in between on the narrow city streets. And my two definitely sat on my lap and sharing my car front seat . . . Oh, when seat belts became mandatory, they were so for me but small kids could sit anywhere . . . no judgements - we all survived!!! I do get impatient rather easily . . . glad the Googling 'how' is in your ballcourt !!! Like the look of your green 'dogs dinner' - a luvverly balance of yummy and healthy . . . hope you will still write about His Lordship even if we have to imagine the pics :) ! love . . .

Yes- I will still write about it. As a partner in it after being the central figure I can write more if that make sense.

Oh those damn carseat straps! I have finally mastered them, but after 13 years of having grands, my husband still has not. I get cross with him because I consider it learned helplessness. But it is a nutty thing. Love the lasagna recipe and frying leftovers. I'm swooning.

Refried lasagna! What a revelation! This green lasagna recipe looks like it would be good to try with bits from our CSA pickups.

Our daughter failed her first newborn hearing test, but they did it the day after she was born, in the hospital, and it was probably due to fluid in her ears. I guess that happens a lot here. Is it standard in Australia to wait a bit? I wonder if that would result in fewer false negatives here.

I think it was just missed in the flurry to get the hell out of there! So they called us to bring him back in. So how long before your daughter next test? That was positive I assume?

The next one was just the following day and she passed!

I've never thought of veggie lasagna, but that sure does looks delicious! And we are getting sugar snap and snow peas, broccoli, cauliflower, onions and garlic from the garden now. Have already harvesting some of the potatoes and have more to go. And the cucumbers are coming on strong! No ripe tomatoes yet, but very soon! :) The peaceful protests were wonderful all over the US. Quite refreshing to see and experience. Makes me hopeful! xoxo

I think babies often went in a carrycot on the floor behind the front seats. When we went on holiday in the 60s we slept in the back of the estate car - I bet that's illegal now!

Your refried lasagne sounds delicious.

That lasagna sounds like the ultimate comfort food after a long day of baby wrangling! I love the tip about pan frying leftovers to bring new life to them.

Also, kudos to you for balancing baby chaos with kitchen magic.

Happy New Week, Cecilia.

I like your writing very much wrt your adventures with your young baby and your hubby and your baby seat!

It resonated so well with me, and I could discern the joy and confidence but also the new mum and dad anxiety that punctuates everything at that time of life. Your recipe sounds really yummy, very similar to my veg lasagna recipe or my veggie spag bol as my daughter and I call it.

Well done, you, for putting yourself out there.

I’ve just started, too, with writing my life story, and I feel really nervous about it.

But I also feel relieved and released somewhat.

Have a super 16/6/2025

Kindest regards

Carol Power
