How are we meant to only think of one thing at a time. I can't. Especially now. Take a walk with me. It is the best way to quieten your flibbertigibbet.
Hands down the picture of the Pops at the gate wins today! Sweetest faces...
Such a stark difference without the corn. I am always a bit shocked to look out at all the flat as we wander in the oasis that is the farm with its trees. I believe after living my entire life among forests I am not suited for limitless open land. I am considering living with my oldest in Colorado, a place that to the east of them is very flat, very open and very much not my real home but simply a later in life adventure for a time.
Look to the west and it is reminiscent of my WA with the towering mountains. Look to the east and I see your plains and miles of open land. By far a state with the best example of the word juxtaposition! If you ever go to visit stay to the Front Range western side and bring your hiking boots :)
I can picture your Mother, set up & ready to paint in her field studio, with 40 cows waiting & watching to appreciate her plein air artwork. I sincerely hope that you have one her paintings hanging in your home or that your children do. I saw a video on the internet some yrs. ago of a herd of cows that had come down a French hillside to the fence to listen with looks of bovine bliss to a touring American jazz combo that had pulled over to play them a number or two. From these examples I conclude that cows are not only curious, but culture mavens too & enjoy the arts as much as the next enthusiast. Thank your for today's wonderful walk about & visit with your charming companions.
Cows do love music. I always had music playing in the barn when I was milking. I used to put my speaker in a sock and hang it from a nail! Those were the days!
How wonderful that her work sold so well, & I'm glad you have one, no matter how, & she may have been wrong about it. I once gave my son one of mine that didn't sell in a show because I did like it & it had a sailboat in it & I wanted him to have one. He hung it in apt. he shared with 3 other students. One of them threw a shirt over a lamp that was left burning when they all went out for the evening...There was a fire....The painting survived but was blackened & the canvas & frame were waterlogged. He & I both cleaned & cleaned it, etc. Long"no good deed" saga. I haven't seen it recently.....
I accidentally (not my kind of place but one of my grandsons loves it) discovered that the Dollar Tree store has a rack of reading glasses cheap. Alas, not everything costs a dollar there anymore, but I think they were three for $5 or something. I buy reams of them and keep stashes of them in every room in my house. Those buggers disappear and they also break. Glad you found yours--I love those little flashes of memory! The brain is an amazing thing.
I love that word, flibbertigibbet! It’s great when you discover someone else uses a favourite word! Great fact packed post today, thank you. Guess what my new screen saver is? Those little black hogs of course! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I like your "Farmy Round-Up", Cecilia! May have to try that at Runamuk...Ive been wanting to feature my critters. Like a "Cast of Characters". And I hear ya on the quiet that follows a busy summer. It can be defening.
Oh Quiet Farm Syndrome - what a great name! My life still feels a little to chaotic to claim that yet, but the days are getting colder and that definitely sets in for me too.

Later in Life adventures are a good idea while you are still in the mood for it! Colorado is a state I have never been to.

I would love to see that picture of C's mom Judith, as well as her art.
I do have one of her paintings but only because she hated it. All the rest were sold.

Do you know why she was so opposed to the one you have?

It feels like a low grade panic! I keep looking back over the farm and thinking - is that all?
I should qualify that - I look back and think- is that all the chores for today? 😂
