I've never heard so many cockadoodle doos in my life. Like a call-and-response. I guess I shouldn't laugh but some calls sound hilarious to me. Fascinating how different they are. Also one orange chicken seemed always to react to that one cockadoodledoo. At least I think so. At last I actually got to see the mouth of the rooster cockadoodledooing for sure. The black one with red accoutrements.
Dominance. Keeping their hens around them. Announcing their self importance. Keeping other roosters out of their space. Lots of reasons really but most of them are guesses. Noisy blighters aren’t they!
I am fond of brown eggs just because they are brown,
All the same I will take home-laid eggs (is that a term?) over stuff from the store.
I like brown eggs too and the deep olive ones. There are near black eggs - I can’t remember the breed but I am not so sure about that!
I had no idea chooks can't taste spice, but now I'm Googling which animals CAN taste spicey food...
Hope they stay dry, I'm happy to read you have too many to count! Do any of the long-timers have names?
No. None of them have names - the oldies seem to gravitate to the big barn. There is quite the retirement community there.
So sweet!
