I’ve got my own very very tiny farmy - six ducks headed for the processor in a couple of weeks. I’m going to be sad about that but I’d rather that feeling than the non-feeling about all the other meat I eat. I’m curious about the turkeys. They seem pretty do-able.

Kristina. Welcome! And thank you so much for subscribing! Growing what you eat is a great accomplishment! Turkeys are great but boy are they stupid. I think growing a few for thanksgiving will be great and I hope to have a breeding pair on the farm as well. Tell me more about your farm? Do you have chickens?

I’ve got two good apple trees, one peach, two pears, some old rhubarb and fennel. And maple trees for syrup. Basically an overgrown tiny farmyard that I’m trying to uncover/recover. Ducks are the first animals. I need to manage to my snowbird schedule.

That sounds exciting. Unearthing treasures! What’s a snowbird schedule? I love the expression.

It's where I live part of the year in a warmer climate (St. Louis, for me), and part of the year in my northern climate. It's what they call all the folks up north who leave for the south in the winter.

The Snowbird Schedule - I like that! We grow most of our food in the summer anyway so it will work out well!

I love this round-up! I think you could do it regularly.

I have Mediterranean-type skin that tans easily and I've always prided myself on it and never fussed over sunscreen. And then. After my knee surgery, I suddenly developed Rosacea. So not fun. And now my face is very reactive to getting sun and suddenly I am a sunscreen fanatic. My daughter introduced me to the Supergoop brand which goes on like regular moisturizer. (I hated the feel of regular sunscreen.) And now I put it on first thing in the morning and re--apply it during the day. And I bought a hat!

I am glad you have a cream that works for your skin. How strange that you developed rosacea after your surgery. I don’t understand that. Maybe the drugs?

An esthetician told me she thought it was the skin reacting to toxins that had been in my body--trying to shed them. Which makes sense, because the skin is the largest organ in the body! But I've Googled that and not found anything. However, everyone's body reacts in different ways. I'm just glad I've found ways to deal with it.

all those chickens! Do you lose many to critters such as hawks and weasels?

Hawks sometimes get the chicks but we have not had a bastard mink attack for a while. Hope I have not just jinxed that. 🤭

The chicks, ducklings, and Durocs are growing very fast. You will be busy feeding them.

Superb round up, thank you so much. You are SO busy now, pleased that you will be cutting back on cooking at least. As if you don’t have enough to do and now guinea pigs arriving soon(💕)Poor quacker sitting on sterile eggs. Hopefully she will remember she is a duck soon and be happy with the new ducklings.

I had to throw away most of her eggs. They were rotting in this heat. So Quacker is probably feeling out of sorts.
