Apart from the sad demise of a young duck what a lovely read again. Good old Boo bringing home the turkeys, amusing little characters. Those Charlottes looking rather large now especially after seeing the tiny and funny little black piglets. So travel time beckoning again, we will miss you but wish you a lovely time with all your families.

I am only off to California for a week. Not long this time. In March I will begin the big annual travels again.

Sorry to learn about your duck. Boy you do a lot of traveling that's for sure!

It’s true. I have always been a bit of a gypsy!

Boo's role is touching - his calm efficiency in finding the duck and then rechecking for others shows the valuable partnership between humans and working dogs. We can learn so much from animals Cecilia. Thank you for sharing.

We can learn from animals through our human lens. I tell all my farm workers that leaning on the gate, just watching, is one of the most important things they can do on the farm.

I did not get to say last week how frankly heart-broken I am that you have decided to put on hold the Ten minutes a day. I so looked forward to seeing and hearing the farm, especially the animals of all stripes. My daily visit did wonders for my mental health. But enough about me.

Losing the duck--what a sad greeting after being away to pick up the little black pigs. I am learning that distractions are important in dealing with so much sorrow and frustration. Every day, something happens to spoil our equilibrium.

Oh i am so sorry Pat. It is getting so busy and as well as everything I had to drive into town to my mother in laws to download the files for the videos. The internet here gets worse and worse and I just could not raise the money from the videos to upgrade so we could continue with the videos. I really tried though! I am so sorry.

aww, sad about the duck, and even though i know it's a part of life, still sad

Yes. Even though it is only a duck and worse stuff happens all around us - we are allowed to be sad about a duck.

I suppose death is a common occurrence on a farm. Does one get used to it ever?

I have learned to allow death to be part of the process - I try to approach it with dignity and care. But I am also careful to guard my heart.

Sorry about the duck but good for Boo, still performing at his best. I'm also so glad that you are rebuilding the farm and its population, though so much has changed since 2011. The Muesli recipe sent me back to the earliest days of the farmy and I was delighted to find this one again: https://thekitchensgarden.com/2011/10/09/the-blood-tests-are-a-yes/

Oh Mary - that was so long ago/ I like going backwards in time too, I think I should do it more often.

Then poor little duck. But life on the farm goes on! The new piggies are cute. I love how Boo finds the missing animals for you. He is a good dog.

He is a good dog and a bad dog all at once! Old Boo!

I agree with you about the turkeys. They were literally weeding with me today. So funny! But so precarious!
