I do understand and am now living as an immigrant in France, instantly recognizable as not-French because of my accent. But I could not abide the thought of another 4 years of crazy, mean and spiteful politics in the US. Nowhere is perfect, of course, and there are plenty of people here who long for the 'les bons vieux jours' but there are also the elements of good taste, tolerance and fairness. When I thank someone for their kindness, the response is always, 'C'est normal, Madame!' I've followed your blog since 2012 and feel that you are on the right path, bumpy and muddy as it is now.

I love that you have been reading since the beginning! Thank you so much for that! And thank you for the kind words. They do help. Though I am not sure I can do another four years should what I suspect might happen does happen. It is inconceivable but possible.

I'm so sorry about how this is for you, and others. Even here in Australia we have 2 close family members who are inclined to MAGA. I'm not looking forward to this. Last U.S. election + Covid + the QAnon rabbit hole derailed them, and they have just begun to emerge from the damage it did to their lives.

I just want fairness. And care. That’s all. In Chicago we have immigrants living in tents on the street. It is miserable.

That was a truly shocking read. How the hell do you manage to survive in a household of Trump supporters? Little wonder that the animals in your care are so beloved by you. I now understand your need to travel away as often as finances allow. The UK is an utterly broken place but at least my family and friends are all singing from the same song sheet, you must feel so isolated and yet still be a caregiver to a family which politically and philosophically you have nothing in common with. Sympathy and kind words don’t really help but it’s all l have to offer!

I think I survive by traveling a lot. Or at least looking forward to traveling. Finding like people. And the animals. The barn is a safe space!

I am so sorry, how absolutely horrible. I cannot imagine the isolation you must feel. I have considered applying for an English passport since my mother was English. A spiteful place within me thinks they will get what the deserve if he is elected again. Unfortunately the rest of us will as well.

What worries me most is that their news is not the same as mine. So depending on what channel a person follows there is every chance that facts are simply not reported or skewed. This is why it is so important to read from a variety of sources. Not just the ones that are offered by the algorithm.

There are many elephants in the room that we choose not to address in the interests of domestic peace. Thankfully the pigs don’t care!
