Tail Feathers. TkG Take Ten
Sit on a bucket with me, watch the ducklings, and listen to the birds in the trees.
Such a joyous sound on a hot day! ! Lots of sounds.
I thought it was Friday but that is in New Zealand and Australia - the ducklings and me are in the Illinois where it is very hot and still Thursday.
The ducklings spent most of today playing around outside their house because sensibly I had big bowls of water close to their house. Every now and then I go over and gently shoo them into their enclosure so they know where it is in case of danger. But. They are more than happy just playing in their water under the twisted willow tree. So happy in fact that they are not even getting out of the pool to get a feed.
Ducks need water around when they are eating because it helps them swallow food, filter out stuff they should not eat, and maintain good beak hygiene. They need the water to be deep enough to get theit whole heads in there. Ducks can close their nostrils when they stick their heads underwater so they don’t inhale water into their lungs. Pretty clever.
Quacker is still not getting too close to the new flock of babies and spent today dozing in the weeds close by. But that is OK. It was a dozey kind of day for a duck.
Have a gorgeous Thursday.
I feel confident(famous last words) that Quacker will succumb to the ducklings’ charms. She has been top(only) duck for a while but won’t be able to resist the lure for much longer! It’s always good to be top duck for a while!🦆
I like how they nip off a bit of leaf then immediately get some water.
