We are dry. We are hellishly dry and the corn is being shushed around by a hot, hot wind. All it needs is a spark from a machine, and poof! But still the wind in the corn sounds like rain.
Um. They do all have different characteristics to the meat. Just like people really and their families. Some run to fat. Some are long with more bacon. Some have short legs. These ones live on greens and grow slow and will run to fat with too much grain.
we finally have rain here and what flowers are left are happy for that and for the farmers as well ,as we transition into fall. it is kind of like you run a quirky hotel or college dorm and have to constantly move the residents in and out and teach them how to live there and figure their food situations. busy work!
I enjoy the walk-about. I heard you a little better this time, but still not 100%. I'm sorry to see the corn so dry. I don't know whether it is salvageable in some form or not. You said someone is coming to harvest it, but I'm not sure what that means. It would be lovely if your fish would survive the winter in the cow's trough! Wai is the least trouble of all! Your kindness certainly paid off for him.
The corn can hang there for months. It is dried out and perfectly fine. They will bring in the combine harvesters soon. Wai is a dear. Such a good boy.
We are so very, very dry down here too! Thank goodness we have drip irrigation for our garden. The fall garden is producing well. And a mama duck hatched out 13 ducklings yesterday! They are adorable! The walkabout was wonderful, as always. xoxo
I have no rustling corn to walk through but the leaves are changing rapidly now on the trees which delights me. The neighborhood sidewalks are covered by the smaller tree leaves but soon- maybe when I come back from Colorado, some of the bigger leaves will be falling. I am so anxious to shoosh my feet through them! One of the best sounds I know.
If you bring fish inside for the winter, where will you keep them? I thought they had grown rather large at this point.
I love the look of the white Tom turkey. I hope he is not the chicken attacker? I would like to see him stay on your side of the ditch :)
I have never seen black pigs before.
I suppose what's inside is no different in taste etc than other colors of pig?

Lovely photos. I hope you get some rain. This is a lovely post. I wrote about fall gardening and letting go this past Sunday if you want to check it out. https://open.substack.com/pub/pocketfulofprose/p/im-letting-go-of-my-garden?r=qqbxq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
Thank you Mary. I will pop over!
🥰 Thank you!
Hi Cecilia
This is such a wonderful glimpse into life on the farm!
I love how you weave in those everyday moments, like the stubborn turkeys and the heartwarming cow-piglet friendship. Thank you for the photos too :)
Thank you and good morning. I appreciate your words but I feel like I am not firing on all cylinders at the moment. My writing feels skeletal.

It is!! Yes! I have often thought I would be good at that too!

I can’t wait for ducklings!!
We had a large tank of water for the cows and horses. There was a small catfish that lived in the tank for many years.
Ha!! That is so funny.
It could be rebranded as ASMR...
Gives you a tingly feeling?

Yes. Him and the silver hen and the white and hen with black splotches. We are hatching a plan. .
Oh yes, I like that plan :)
That's a great walk about! Thanks.
You are so welcome. I liked this one too.
