Alice . Ch IV. The Rabbit Sends in a Little Bill

Alice in Wonderland: in which the White Rabbit sends Alice on an errand that leaves her trapped in the house after another wild growth spurt - a further lesson in not drinking out of strange bottles!

Read by Cecilia Buys-Wheeler Gunther

Drawing on my history in the theatre (I had fun as an actor but was a better director), I am reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carol for you. A chapter at a time. Yay!

Today. Another chapter. And a little newsletter because yeah - it is Sunday somewhere!

It is Monday morning already here in Australia. (I am 17 hours in your future). The last few days I have been helping my daughter shift house from the city in Melbourne out to a little town in the suburbs. (Urban sprawl). Saturday was the big shift day. Today is a rest day. Tomorrow we go back and finish cleaning the house we are leaving. And work out how to shift an enormously tall bird of paradise plant the movers ‘forgot’!!!

After that we are officially moved in.

So the last few days have been consumed with decluttering and packing.

My biggest tip for decluttering is to take the items out of their space. Lay them all out on the floor or on a table and examine their usefulness. Once they are out of the drawer or off the shelf they are much easier to judge and possibly repurpose.

For all our new listeners and readers - I am a farmer and gardener (I grow food) I also travel and write and take photographs. I am not new to any of these things. Nor am I defined by them but I am as comfortable in as airport lounge as I am in my own barn.

This is one of the reasons I have never been fond of tight branding. If your branding is too tight it won’t let the light of your personality in. And we all love to read real people. We need to feel seen. We need to see. Let your people see who you are.

So when I am on the farm - I talk about farming. When I travel - I talk about sustainable homes and backyard gardens. When I am having fun: I read you books because bringing you a peaceful few minutes a few times a week is one of my goals here. This is why my audio readings of the classics are getting quite popular.

I have you to thank for that.

Go to my (week) daily blog the kitchens garden for the current news. I am in Melbourne this month working on our new project: The Compact Kitchens Garden. Developing city gardens with country hearts.

I woke up this morning in my new room in my daughter’s new house. Second hand of course but new to us. The bird sounds in this suburban town are amazing. There are sone really huge mature trees and they are heaving with doves and magpies and lorikeets and cockatoos.

We still don’t have internet in the new house. So I am writing on my phone and keeping this short. Here is our first look at the site for the tiny Compact Kitchen’s Garden.

A challenge for me. I am used to acres of garden space.

Don’t be lonely - I have a chat running - pop in and say Hi.
