Crikey! I used to work with a friend you used 'CRIKEY!' as her expletive of choice. She totally passed that habit onto me. Love using that word. Funny how our language can seep into our family and friends vocabulary. We just finished hosting our son's family and our daughter's family over the school break. Three littles under five and two bigs over thirteen. The bigs bashfully hideaway in the shadows hoping the littles don't blow their cover and make them do something terrible like dress up or pretend. ;) I noticed this week my old saying of 'moi aussi' somehow crept into my wife's lingo. I have NEVER heard her squeak a syllable in french. But as the week went on and we old ones got a little weaker at the knees out it came. I'm actually leaving my beautiful countryside behind in a month ... that is why I haven't written on my blog lately. Cannot figure out how to say 'I'm leaving'... We are leaving for another great place - Retirement 2.0 - a new adventure. But CRIKEY I'm a bit sick at heart as I say goodbye to this fiercely loved little hobby farm of mine. Our next stop is actually ... an apartment ... BUT it is on the shores of Lake Ontario ... with kilometres of amazing hiking and biking trails right out the back door. Our daughter and her family are moving into our place. So it will remain a family treasure. It will be great to see what they do with the place. I am going to miss the familiar critter personalities that have lived here with me for twelve years. Maybe I'll be able to sway them to develop at least their own little flock of hens. Always glad to chat with you!

Oh nno! And of yes!!! An exciting new chapter but I totally understand about leaving. And wonderful that your daughter is going to live there too. Wendy I never thought you and your wife would retire to an apartment but it sounds like we can pretend it is a hut on the lake front. Being close to water will be wonderful.

Even/especially travelling, not everything goes to plan. The phone/data coverage is pretty ordinary, we've had noise disturbances but at least a tree didn't fall on our caravan, rain, cancellations, bad fuel in our car necessitating repairs, change of plans... we still haven't started the second leg of our trip. As they say... sh!t happens. But we are at the beach and there is wine.

To you, all will be well... good enough anyway.

Well Thanks Gods a tree did not fall on the caravan. Crikey as Wendy would say!! A beach and wine sounds mighty fine to me!!

I remember you introducing me to wine. It was a white wine, I was not a fan and remember thinking where is the bourbon haha but now 25 years on I would happily sit and enjoy a bottle of Sav with you! Love and miss you too xxx

Oh, Cecilia, You're breaking my heart...you're breaking my confidence daily....or whatever..... Such a litany of woe. I think you might have what I used to get - the Sunday blahs - I never knew why exactly, not because the stores were closed since I was not a big one to go shopping. Sundays just seemed so ...blah. I'm fine with Sundays now that I'm old. But you're still young & just getting ansty for your big trip coming up & you want your internet to work & the creatures to behave themselves. I remember Sundays out in the country could be Really blah. I sure wish I could come out by with a couple of bottles of wine. We could make some toast with your homemade bread & have a nice big chit-chat. Sometimes you just just a good old girl friend. This will have to do from me till now. Soon it will be tomorrow. But remember today it's St. Patrick's Day, so Sláinte! if you've laid your hands on some wine. Judith

Judith. The bastards drunk all my wine!!! Horrors! And you are right - sometimes a person needs a sit down with an old friend. And we have been friends many years now!!

I had a cousin who hid her bottles behind big jugs under the sink & still have a friend who hides her candy places he would never ever look. Sometimes a girl has to do what she has to do.

My wife’s been reading up on stoicism. Would that apply for you?

Poor John. The rule is to take a bucket when hunting lost cows. And the bucket must have corn in it - I don’t know how they know but they DO know if you are carrying an empty bucket. Once John put an empty bucket in the bucket of the tractor and thought the cows would follow him. Both the cows and I raised our eyebrows as we walked past! Sheesh. We said.
